INFORMATION FOR NEW (AND RETURNING) STUDENTS
School Hours and Attendance
School hours are Mondays 8:25-12:35; Tuesdays-Fridays 8:25-3:05
Buses generally arrive between 8:05 and 8:20am. The earliest students can arrive is 8:05. Students who arrive before 8:15 wait in the cafeteria. Students are allowed to go to their classrooms after 8:15.
Students arriving after 8:25am are tardy and must sign in at the office before going to their classrooms.
Pick Up After School, Visitors & Volunteers
At the end of the school day, parents may pick up their children in the school lobby or outside the front doors.
The Kiss and Ride Carpool procedures are easy to follow. Four vehicle pickup stations are marked by colored traffic cones allowing staff and patrols to help load four cars at once. Students line up in numbered lanes (1-5) alphabetically according to last name. Students and drivers are called to a specific colored cone for boarding. Additional information will be distributed to Kiss and Ride students.
If your child is going home with a friend, both parents must write a note to the teacher. It should state who the child is going home with and how (carpool, walking).
If your child is arriving or leaving at times other than regular school hours, you must sign him/her in or out at the office using the green form. The school prefers regular medical appointments to be scheduled after regular hours whenever possible. If this is not possible, please send in a note to the teacher stating the reason and time of early dismissal.
Check in at the office and get a visitor or volunteer sticker each time you visit the school during regular school hours. Pleas remember to sign out when you leave.
Keep in Touch with Ravensworth
Families automatically get information in the form of the Wednesday folders and the Reveille, the monthly PTA/school newsletters. Starting this year, parents may choose whether to receive these electronically or in hard copy form. Families will also get periodic Keep in Touch emails from the school at the email address they provided at registration. You may add or update this email through the FCPS 24-7 Blackboard online system. Information on this as well as additional keep in touch emails from Fairfax County Public Schools is available at http://www.fcps.edu/kit/.
Other sources for information from Ravensworth Elementary include the PTA website www.ravensworthpta.org, and the weekly PTA emails, which you may sign up for on the home page of the PTA website. There is also information on the school's websiite www.fcps.K12.va.us/RavensworthES/.
Lunch
Each student from has a lunch card. There are several ways to put money on the card. Add money to your child's account on-line at www.mylunchmoney.com. You will need your child's student ID # which can be found on previous report cards and beginning of the year materials. You may also send in a check made out to Ravensworth ES Food Services. Include the child’s name & grade in the memo section. Students give the check to their teacher. Cash may also be sent in but be sure to include a note stating the purpose of the cash and your student’s name & grade.
Even if your child usually brings a lunch or lunch-money from home, it is recommended that you purchase a lunch card for your child with five or more lunches pre-paid. The card stays in the cafeteria and can be used if your child forgets a lunch or lunch money.
Other Things to Know
You can contact your child’s teacher by note, email or phone call. Teachers’ phones are off during the day so if you have an emergency it is best to call the office at 703 426-3600.

The school’s Lost-and-Found box is located in the cafeteria. Please be sure that you and your child check it regularly.
