Here's How You Can Help

Volunteer in the School
There are several ways to volunteer at Ravensworth. You can sign up to help your child's teacher either in the classroom or at home. Also, there are many volunteer opportunities outside your child's regular classroom such as in the clinic, library, or physical education classes.
The library and clinic can make use of regular scheduled volunteers, as well as occasional substitutes. In the library, you would assist in shelving books and checking out books to the students. In the clinic, you would help call parents when an illness or injury occurs, and give tender loving care to students. You do not need medical training to volunteer, but there is a short training class which will provide you with a level of comfort.
If you only have one or two days a year when you can help out at school, consider Health Screening Days in the fall or Field Day in the spring. No training is needed; you can just show up and make an important contribution to our school community.
If you have an artistic or musical interest, there are opportunities for regular assistance at school. Members of the Art Committee can work with the National PTA-sponsored "Reflections" contest in the fall, or you can help with art displays occasionally throughout the year. With GRACE Art, a supplemental art program presented at each grade level, monthly for about one hour, you could either present the planned program or assist the children with the planned craft/art project.
Your musical talents will be greatly appreciated by the music teacher and students. You can provide occasional assistance with a musical demonstration or accompaniment of student musicians. The Strings teacher can also use help tuning instruments before concerts, if you possess that skill.
Some teachers can use regular or occasional help in the classroom or at home. This may include reading with the children, assisting with writing projects, sorting or filing papers, or cutting out colored paper for a project or a display. Teachers may ask parents to help by typing up student writing projects, or coming in to display student work. You may help in your own child's class or in any classroom as needed. The teachers will determine what their needs are, and contact volunteers.
Volunteer with the PTA
The PTA has many standing committees that need volunteers to manage and carry out numerous products benefiting Ravensworth and its students. You can also head one of these committees, or become a PTA Board member.
The PTA itself can use your help. We sponsor events throughout the year, including fundraisers and fun family events. Some of these will be listed on the Volunteer sign-up form (found in the Welcome Pack sent home with your child). The PTA Board also needs assistance. The Board is made up of the elected officers plus the Chairmen of the Standing Committees. Each of those chairmen needs to have a committee working with them to do the work. It's a lot easier, and a lot more fun to share the committee work! Please consider joining one of these committees.
